How do the Points and Rankings work?

At each Edinburgh Youth Sabre Competiotions points are awarded to the top 21 fencers taking part as follows
1st - 40 points 11th - 12 points
2nd - 36 points 12th - 10 points
3rd - 32 points 13th - 9 points
4th - 28 points 14th - 8 points
5th - 24 points 15th - 7 points
6th - 22 points 16th - 6 points
7th - 20 points 17th - 6 points
8th - 18 points 18th - 4 points
9th - 16 points 19th - 3 points
10th - 14 points 20th - 2 points
21st - 1 point

Results and associated ranking points will be posted on the Edinburgh Sabre Club website: after each event.

Series Winner Salvers and Series Winners Medal
In a normal season five events are held. At the end of the season the points from up to and including your best 3 competitions are added together to make your season points total. If you have entered more than 3 competitions in the season you ignore your lowest scoring event/s.
The series runs from January to November/December in a calendar year. If we are unable to hold 3 or more events in a series it is at the discretion of the series organisers as to whether salvers are presented.

Mixed events and Medals
When age or gender categories are combined due to low entries, results are still counted separately for each original category for rankings and medals. Fencers remain eligible for awards in their own age/gender category, even when competing in a mixed event. If a category has only one entrant, that fencer’s result in the mixed event will count as a win for their category, with medals and ranking points awarded as normal. Mixed events are used only to provide competition and do not combine or remove category awards unless this is clearly stated in advance by the organisers.

Tied Points
If at the end of the season final event points are tied between fencers in an category group, then the series winner will be decided as follows: If two or more fencers have the same number of season points at the end of the season, then the series winner award will go to the tied fencer based on count back of number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd places etc. for each tied fencer. i.e. fencer with most 1st places is awarded the series winners salver and series winners medal, if still tied, most 2nd places, if still tied most 3rd places etc.
